Patched Light Housing Leak in Catawba County

A pool owner in Catawba reached out about losing about an inch of water every 8 hours from their in-ground vinyl pool. They had also mentioned a color-changing pool light that had stopped cycling through its colors and was stuck showing just pink. It's an easy thing to write off as typical wear, but when a light like that quits working the way it should, we've learned it's usually worth checking if something is going on behind the fixture, not just inside the bulb.

We treat any report like this as worth a closer look rather than a quick swap. When we pulled the light and inspected the housing, we found what we've come to recognize as a familiar culprit: a leaking Pentair light housing. This has come up often enough in conversations with other pool techs, and on Pentair fixtures in particular, that we've started checking the light housings for all in-ground vinyl pools. Sure enough, this pool had the same issue.

While the light having color shifting issues likely didnt have anything to do with this leak, its a good sign to check just in case. Once we confirmed the housing had cracked where the wiring harness pipe had connected to it (usually due to shifting soil beneath the deck), we addressed the leak with some 2-part epoxy, and got the housing sealed back up properly so the water loss would stop - confirmed with a dye test!

It's not the normal vinyl liner patch we expected to do based on the water loss, but that just makes the job more interesting!

All told, this repair took a little over two and a half hours from diagnosis to finish, which is a bit longer than usual, as there had been a repair tech from another company a couple days before us who had left a few red herrings for us to re-inspect.
